Dogs Trust has published a new account of Gilly, a greyhound living in London, and the preparations her owner uses during fireworks. The story is dated 9 October 2026; Gilly joined her home in September 2024.
A familiar place to retreat
The charity’s account describes a quiet den with blankets and familiar activities. Her owner also walks earlier before expected displays and uses sound to help mask sudden noise.
Progress at an individual pace
Gilly’s owner reports that these arrangements have helped her become calmer. This is one dog’s experience, rather than a promise that the same routine will work for every dog.
Support beyond the season
Dogs Trust points owners towards its behaviour support services when noise sensitivity or fear is difficult to manage. A worrying or sudden change should be discussed with a vet; a story cannot diagnose its cause.
Plan everyday care too
Use our fireworks preparation checklist for related reading. Before a grooming appointment, explain any sound or handling concerns directly to the groomer.
