A French hound with a distinctive jacket
The Porcelaine belongs to France's medium-sized scent-hound tradition. Both FCI and United Kennel Club accounts describe a dog used to move small game towards waiting hunters. That practical role gives a more secure introduction than attaching an unsupported exact ancient founding date to the breed.
The FCI catalogue and standard provide its modern registered identity, while UKC recognition followed in 1996. Recognition dates describe organisations' records, not necessarily the first existence of a local working type. This profile keeps those formal milestones separate from a claimed complete ancestry.
White, orange and characteristic ears
Fine close glossy hair gives a distinctive appearance, with orange patches over a white background and orange ticking on the ears. The standard does not seek a broad orange mantle. A photograph illustrates one individual, and a pale jacket cannot establish either skin comfort or physical soundness.
Function is clearer than a personality promise
The standard is more detailed about scent work, appearance and lively movement than about household temperament. A soft expression is not evidence of easy recall or compatibility with every animal. Reward attention and arrange secure opportunities to explore while learning the individual's responses.
Gentle care for a fine coat
Check feet, ears and places beneath equipment after outdoor activity, using tools that do not scrape the skin. Introduce examination gradually without pulling on sensitive ears. Tell a groomer about discomfort or previous experiences, and investigate persistent irritation rather than treating glossy white hair as proof of trouble-free health.
