A cross-Channel name

The FCI's English description of the Anglo-Francais de petite venerie is Medium-Sized Anglo-French Hound. The French hunting term petite venerie should not be read as a promise of a tiny dog. This is a distinct scent-hound entry, number 325, with a French origin and a practical working background.

The Societe Centrale Canine connects its history with exchanges between British and French hunting-hound traditions. It records recognition of the standard in 1978 through the efforts of Emile Guillet and other enthusiasts. That is a useful modern milestone, separate from broad claims about centuries of cross-Channel hound breeding.

A balanced hound, not a miniature

The standard describes a solid, balanced dog without heaviness, with a relatively elongated head and flexible drop ears. A smooth coat makes the outline visible, but a photograph cannot establish fitness, health or a particular dog's response to animals and people.

For daily life, ask about safe opportunities to explore, reactions to scent and the ability to rest afterwards. Vocal behaviour and a secure routine matter when considering a home. A working breed description is a starting point for those questions rather than an assurance that every individual behaves alike.

Bring the working context into ordinary care

A professional can assess skin, loose hair and a suitable maintenance plan. Explain what the dog has experienced around feet contact, unfamiliar people and equipment noise. Confidence outdoors does not automatically make close handling in a new environment comfortable.

The licensed natural photograph is explicitly titled Anglo-francais de petite venerie and shows the individual Derrida. It replaces an ambiguous earlier candidate and is reproduced with its source credit and licence. France is the recorded origin, not a measured claim about where most of the world's dogs of this breed live.
