French hound type with Foxhound influence
The FCI records the Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolore as number 322, a French large scenthound. Its description explicitly acknowledges Foxhound influence within a predominantly French outline. UKC's record adds recognition in 2006.
The breed is separate from Francais Tricolore, FCI 219. A similar black, white and tan pattern is not a reason to interchange their photographs or histories. The source documents establish a working type more clearly than a detailed, precisely dated founding pedigree.
A solid outline in three colours
The standard describes a strong, well-supported body, deep chest and long, rounded ribs. Short hair carries black mantle or patches with white and bright tan. The tail has a useful covering of hair without the abundant plume of a long-coated breed.
Questions beyond the breed name
Ask how the particular dog responds to scent, unfamiliar dogs, separation and quiet household routines. A pack-hound background can inform those questions without deciding the answers. Reward checking in and settling, and arrange secure opportunities to explore.
Making care predictable
Gentle grooming can remove loose hair while helping you notice rubbing or skin changes. Check feet and ear surfaces after outings without probing. Introduce a stable grooming position and short positive handling sessions, and let professionals know about sensitivities before an appointment starts.
