A French pack-hound identity

The French Tricolour Hound is Francais Tricolore, FCI number 219. UKC describes a French breed developed for big-game hunting, while the FCI catalogue records definitive acceptance on 15 December 1959.

It is separate from the Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolore, number 322. Similar colours and informal translations can obscure that difference, so the breed number and a specifically identified photograph are useful when comparing sources. The standards do not justify inventing a detailed founding pedigree.

An elegant hound in three colours

A substantial but elegant body carries short, fairly fine hair. A black mantle or patches accompany white and bright tan, with coppery shades preferred in the FCI description. Long ears and a deep chest complete a purposeful working outline.

Ask questions where the standard is quiet

The source documents emphasise hunting type and physical characteristics more than a detailed household temperament profile. Ask about the particular dog's scent interests, voice, social experience and reaction to new handling. A pack background cannot answer every question about domestic life.

A straightforward coat still needs care

Gentle grooming provides time to notice rubbing, scratches or changes in the skin. Check feet and ear surfaces after outdoor activity and reward comfortable standing. Share the dog's handling history with a groomer so the appointment can begin with realistic expectations and appropriate breaks.
